Personal History		The Early Year's Oscar Manu Rodriguez was born in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. He was born on October 14, 2381 to Armando and Esperanza Rodriguez. No one in his family had ever served in Starfleet before. His family did not have any issues with Starfleet but they didn't see any desire to go out to the Stars and to get into fights with space aliens. They were too busy dealing with their lives on Earth to be worried about the Stars. He comes from a family of seven, and he's the second oldest. From a young age Oscar knew that he wanted to reach out to the Stars and explore. He felt the calling to the stars, to see what was out in the universe. Oscar felt that his purpose, his meaning was in space. When he learned about Starfleet, he knew he wanted to join up with them as soon as he could. The thrill and the adventure of it, was very exciting. He also had heard that Starfleet were not really explorers anymore, and they mainly dealt with conflicts within their borders. But that was okay for him. To him, all of Federation was new and exciting. Oscar grew up in a warm and happy home, and loved school as a child. As a child, he wanted to do well in school so someday he too could go to the stars, and explore space. Oscar had a few friends going up, but he was closest to his family. In his world, and in his parents' upbringing. Nothing was more important than family. Not even in relationships with his girlfriends. He made that very clear to everyone he ever dated. Most girls felt the same as he did, when it came to family. It was a very latino trait to have in Mexico. Growing up with his six siblings was a challenging time but a fun time in his life. It seemed like there was nothing they could not do, if they all worked together. They were unstoppable growing up. His siblings did not want to see him leave in the summer of 2399. Oscar’s high school days were challenging but he managed to get through them. Oscar was always looking for love, but never could find it in high school. He dated a few girls, but no one that wanted to get serious. Most of the girls were to focus on their reputation and being promiscuous. And he was not really into that. Oscar left for Starfleet, single and ready to go. He was accepted into Starfleet Academy on Betazed. He was eager to get off Earth, and explore the stars. And visit an alien planet. Even though the betazed’s looked similar to us, they were completely different from humans. In every aspect. Especially mannerisms. He could not wait to see the differences in person. Starfleet Academy: Betazed Academy Grounds In 2399 Oscar enrolled into the Academy. His primary focus was in the science field. He specialized in Xenobiology, but made sure to ground himself enough in most fields of science to keep himself relevant. Deep down he misses his family, it was a little strange not being around his younger siblings, however his fellow classmates made him feel like they were a tight unit. But he wasn't sure how long that would last because he knew the ones they graduated they would be moving onto separate assignments. Despite knowing that back it made him feel reassured that the fleet could be a second family to him if he opened his heart to the idea. Oscar focused hard on his studies. He wanted to be a Starfleet officer. He didn't have a lot of time to date. He spent most of his time in study groups with his fellow scientists in training. By 2403 Oscar had graduated from Starfleet Academy. He was assigned to the USS Spartacus as Science Officer. USS Spartacus In 2403, Oscar was now a science officer on board a Federation Carrier. At first he was a little confused by this move by Starfleet. Would there ever be any scientific missions with an aircraft carrier he wondered. It was not an exploration ship. Oscar at first I'm not sure why he was assigned to a carrier in the science division. Deep down here is kind of hoping for it to be a Science vessel. He was a scientist after all. Despite his initial confusion he gave 100% of his attention and efforts to the new assignment, he was glad he was because of that decision he met the love of his life. On a random Tuesday night Oscar met Gladys for the first time, he could tell that she was troubled by something. He approached her because he was genuinely interested and what had this beautiful lady upset, and he could tell that she needed a friend. He needed a friend so it was a mutual benefit to them both. Gladys warned him that she wouldn't be good company during their first encounter. He didn't believe that, and he was proven right. She told him about her front seater and how he always treated her horribly. Despite the fact that at first she sounded like drama the more he got to know her the more he realized that she wasn't, and that she was a pretty darn person that was just put in a bad situation. Gladys and Oscar began a friendship, he would listen to her talk about the hardship she would go through being a pilot and have to deal with a jerk as her primary. She was a Tactical Systems Operator (TSO) for him, and she seemed to always get the brunt of his attacks. Even after she became a pilot is a attacks continued. He learned this was just a form of hazing that her Squadron leader insisted on, probably because that's the way he was raised. Oscar did not have the same issues that she faced, which made him feel guilty that his people were nice to him while her people continue to haze her. He wanted to intervene but he knew that she had to go through this and figure it out she was a tough woman and he knew at some point to be able to find her way. Oscar seemed to be accepted into her pilot community. They saw him as "Shark's" main romantic interest. He learned that Shark had been too arrogant and "Nitro," the squadron commander, was trying to bust your troughs to get her to get over her cockiness of arrogance. Despite the fact that her squadron commander was in the wrong, he saw what they were trying to do and the intentions were good. But that did not justify his actions in his eyes but this wasn't his community and he knew if he was going to succeed that she would have to own up to the fact that he had good intentions. The reason for the constant bickering and belittlement treatment was because the fact that she hadn't accepted the right of passage, she thought she was better than them is how they felt. Oscar thought about it for a few days, what to say to her and how to say it but eventually he told her that she should apologize, he hoped I didn't enter his friendship with her cuz he really did like her. He could tell that Gladys was shocked by his admission; he just hope that she would consider it as he quickly changed the topic. You don't want to scare off completely but he also wanted her to get along with her team, they were a unit and they needed to be able to communicate as such. After a while he learned that she had apologized, and that she seemed a lot happier and their relationship started to progress a little bit. It felt like they were more than just friends, he hoped she felt the same. Her interactions with him seem to indicate that she likes him too. On an average Thursday night he asked her out and she said yes. He was dancing up and down with Joy. Her crew has said it was about time that she had officially dated him. They started to accept her in their inner circle. Oscar found that most of his time was taken by gladys, which wasn't a bad thing in his eyes. But he still found time for himself. Every day he was going to walk to the arboretum every morning by himself, to collect his thoughts. He debated but life would be like with Gladys if they experience their relationship Beyond boyfriend and girlfriend, deep down he was thinking about marriage even though he felt like it was still too early in a relationship to have those kinds of thoughts. For the moment he tried to focus on the relationship as it was and on his career, which was excelling. He had already been on a couple small away missions mainly doing small odd jobs but there's enough to get him noticed. After about a year into this field he was promoted to assistant chief science officer after their former assistant chief was transferred to another ship because of a sudden promotion. On December 15th, 2403 after about 6 months of dating he decided it was time to ask which he thought was kind of sudden but the amount of time that they had spent together and how close they had drawn he felt like it was a logical conclusion. His next step was to talk to his parents and his six other siblings about the fact that he wanted to marry a girl after only knowing her for 6 months. The family has some interesting things to say about it. His brothers were all for his sisters thinking he was rushing things but the surprising thing was his mama. As she looked at him she told him yes, he had her blessing she could see the love in his eyes. His father was a little more hesitant but he saw no reason to decline their request; he just told him to be careful and to make sure that this is what he truly wanted. With the blessing of his family, now can the painstaking process. He would have preferred to ask in person, but that was not possible at the moment. Oscar asked Gladys' dad for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Her parents grilled him for a little while, and they eventually gave him their blessing. Shortly after getting engaged, she started to talk about starting a family. The idea brought a warm smile to his face. He could see them starting a beautiful life together. He too wanted to have a child with her. This decision to have children had an unexpected career change. Gladys wanted to change professions. Oscar listened to her reasons. She wanted to be available to help raise her kids, not galloping out in space on a fighter pilot staring at photos or holo pics. Oscar and Gladys applied for a transfer in 2405 to the USS Dragonstar. Oscar heard that Admiral Martinez was looking for officers in the 8th Tactical Command, he suggested to Galdys that they should apply, he heard they were looking for a chief helmsman and a chief science officer. This was their opportunity they had been waiting for. They would have to finish out their contract on the Spartacus. A short time later Oscar learned that Gladys was pregnant. They both decided not to get married till after the baby was born. Gladys did not want to be fat in her wedding dress. Oscar did not care if she was fat in her dress, but he respected her wishes. She found out she was two months along. For the next seven months they prepared for the arrive of their baby boy, and broke the news to the crew of the Sparatcus that they would be leaving. They were given a proper send off and a party. Oscar found it hard to leave.
