| Personal History | THE EARLY YEARS: Kimberly was born on the USS Ortega. Her parents both served there, her father an Engineer and her mother an operations officer. She was just seven years old when they both accepted positions at a outpost on Delta Vega. Kimberly had a strict home school schedule and matured quickly. She was the only child at the outpost so she had to learn to adapt and part of that was taking an interest in her parents work. By the time she was nine, she was helping her parents with simple tasks. Kimberly hated school but she loved the hands on work with her parents. It wasn't that she found school particularly hard, she just found it boring. When she wasn't helping them out she played soccer on an old computer game system that her father had found when they arrived. Kimberly loved the game and at times wished that she could actually play the game with other children. Kimberly was seventeen when she applied to Starfleet Academy to attend the engineering department. At first, they were hesitant to accept her as she had no accredited school records, only her home schooling. But after she aced some preliminary examinations, she was accepted and Kimberly headed to the academy on Earth. ACADEMY YEARS: Kimberly was both excited and nervous to arrive at the academy. After living on the outpost for so long, it was an adjustment to be around so many people and having a roommate. Her first roommate didn’t last very long. Charlotte Mansfield talked nonstop and always had friends over who wantedt to party. Kimberly was serious about getting good grades and graduating with honors. It wasn’t long and Kimberly found herself with a new roommate, April Cruise. They were well matched. Both of them were quiet and quite studious. Over the years, Kimberly had developed strong homework ethics and it was now paying off. Kimberly didn’t make a lot of friends of the female persuasion. It seemed most of them were interested in chasing the men when they weren’t in class or talking about having a career and a family. She wasn’t interested in that, she wanted a career. It was the most important thing to her and what drove her. When she took a rare break, she would hang out with April. By her second year, Kimberly felt more comfortable and confident in her abilities. She had done some engineering work with her father it was getting past the classes that she needed to concentrate on. Their instructor assigned everyone a lab partner. Kimberly’s partner was Greg Brunel. She was nervous and quiet at first but he knew how to make her feel at ease. They became friends and worked together on their Homework and projects. Soon, their friendship blossomed and they started dating. It wasn’t long before they were intimate. He was Kimberly’s first and she had stars in her eyes and thought she was in love. Their relationship seemed to flourish. They were both studying to be engineers and they had a lot in common. Neither of them were into the party scene, preferring to work towards their careers. There we’re a few things they didn’t feel the same on. Kimberly wouldn’t move in with him but kept her place with April, even though she stayed most nights with Greg. April was a good friend and she wanted to spend time with her as well. The other thing was marriage and children. Kimberly wasn’t opposed to someday getting serious about their relationship but children were not something she wanted. It wasn’t that she didn’t like children, she just didn’t have the burning desire to be a mother. Sometimes she felt guilty and that their was something wrong with her. Everyone else knew planned to balance their career with s family and Kimberly, at this point in her life couldn’t see it happening. Finally their graduation day came. Kimberly was excited to graduate with both Greg and April. She was excited about the future but nervous as well. Things were uncertain for her and Greg. Both of her parents came to graduation. Greg and April had lots of family but for Kimberly there were just the three of them. Both her parents were only children and her grandparents had all passed away. It meant everything that her parents took the time to come. Kimberly was excited to get her assignment on the USS Tannu Tuva. April was heading off on the USS Galatea, a carrier. Greg was assigned to Starbase 47. She could see the excitement on his face. Later that evening, they went out to dinner with their families. Kimberly was having a good time but she felt that her and Greg needed to have a talk about their l future. They never really spoke about this day and what would happen next. Kimberly looked up when she heard a spoon tapping on a glass and froze in her seat. She knew what was coming and made a move to try and stop him but Greg was already down on his knee, asking her to marry him. Kimberly felt panicked, she didn’t know what to say. She wasn’t ready for this, to make a decision this serious. Kimberly’s eyes met his and she knew in that moment that Greg knew as well. He asked for a moment of privacy and they stepped outside. Kimberly started with an apology. She hadn’t meant to lead him on or make him feel like she was on board with moving things along like this. Greg admitted that he thought she was just scared of commitment and he thought she would change. Kimberly hated hurting him but she knew that if she gave in and agreed to marry him neither of them would be happy. They agreed to end their relationship, promised to remain friends and keep in touch. USS Tannu Tuva Kimberly was excited when she came on board the USS Tannu Tuva. It was a fresh start for her and she felt like things were going to move quickly. She wasn’t there very long and then she met Brandon Reed. The two became fast friends. Kimberly respected how Brandon took his job seriously and understood that she did as well. For the next two years, Kimberly worked hard in the engineering department to turn heads and get noticed. She wanted them to see her value and put her in for a promotion. Kimberly was pleased that her chief was adding a higher level of responsively to her schedule. She knew it meant she would he promoted soon. Kimberly volunteered for all assignments and she could see the command officers were looking at her. She had even been asked for by name and she felt even more confidence in herself. One of the perks of being friends with Brandon was that they did what they could for each other to make certain their careers would move forward. They had a close and deep friendship, each wanting the other to succeed. Kimberly could tell him anything and he wouldn’t judge her, especially about not wanting to have children. He understood and respected her feelings on the matter. USS Callisto Kimberly was excited when she was promoted to assistant engineering chief and given an assignment on the USS Callisto. Brandon had gotten his promotion the day before and now they were both headed there. She had had a pit in her stomach when she realized he was leaving. Their friendship had come to mean a lot to her. Knowing they would serve together was like icing on a cake. A few weeks after Brandon heard to the USS Callisto, Kimberly arrived on board. It wasn’t long that she and Brandon decided they wanted to date each other. Kimberly jumped into the job, embracing her duties and as she did when she was an engineering officer, she volunteered to do more, driving herself to succeed to the position of engineering chief. Kimberly wanted to move up and she felt she was turning heads on this ship as well. The only problem was there was no position for her to advance to on the Callilsto so it looked like if she wanted a chief position she would have to transfer off. (2387) Two years after she came aboard the USS Calisto, Kimberly was promoted to Chief Engineer. Chief Davidson had taken a promotion to the USS Oxford and highly recommended that Kimberly step into his position. At the same time she was promoted to lieutenant. Kimberly felt satisfaction that her career was moving forward. Encouraged by her promotion, Kimberly started applying for second officer positions and talked Brandon into doing the same. She knew he would make a great command officer and hated seeing him settle when he could be going so far. Kimberly knew that once Brandon started advancing he would feel the motivation she did. In 2389 Kimberly accepted the position as second officer of the USS Elysium, an Ambassador class. She was also the Chief Engineer. Brandon was offered a position as well on the USS Halifax which he turned down because he felt it wasn’t an advancement for him. They disagreed on his decision but even though she was disappointed, Kimberly respected him and accepted his choice. They both knew that this day would come. With both Brandon and Kimberly wanting command positions their was no way they would continue to serve together. While she served on the USS Elysium she was given a rank increase to Lieutenant Commander, Kimberly left with mixed feelings. They agreed to continue to stay exclusive and see how it worked out for them. They saw each other when ever they could but their schedules made it tough. In 2391, Kimberly left the USS Elysium to go to Starfleet Academy to attend Command Courses. She was excited about this venture but concerned at the same time. Brandon wasn’t advancing as she was and a command officer could not be involved with a crew member. She reminded him of this and encouraged him to work towards advancing. In 2392, Kimberly graduated from the Command Academy. Her relationship with Brandon was on again, off again. She was assigned to the USS Wellington, again as second officer and chief engineer, while she waited for a first officer position to become available. At first, Kimberly expected to get an assignment any day but as the days and months passed, she learned what patience was. In 2394 Kimberly was assigned to the USS Crabtree as first officer and the first person she told was Brandon. She knew he was happy for her but at the same time, it meant at least for the time being they would not be able to see each other. Kimberly loved him but both of them wouldn’t be happy without fulfilling their dreams of advancement. She encouraged him once again, reminding him that it was against regulations for her to date a department head. Kimberly hoped he wanted to stay in a relationship but she knew it was hard for him. He was a science officer and he liked serving on a science ship. Kimberly excelled as first officer. She wasn’t one to get close to people, but she knew how to listen and be there for the crew. She was very good at being the mediary between the captain and the crew, listening when they needed her to and taking any issues to the captain. Kimberly took advantage of serving under Captain Graves and gained as much knowledge and hands on experience to be a valuable Starship captain. She once again gained a rank increase, this time to Commander. The same year she became a first officer, Brandon put in a transfer and soon was assigned to the USS Merrimack as second officer/science chief. She was glad to see he was pushing forward with his career and that it also meant they could continue with their relationship. In 2397, Kimberly was promoted to Captain and given command of the USS Cydonia. Kimberly was happy to have finally made it. She walked onto the ship with an air of confidence and got along well with the crew and her first officer. She soon gained a reputation as a captain that could be counted on. She kept her word and believed in the rules of the Federation. In 2401 she was asked to take command of the USS Merkava. It was a larger class ship and the captain had transferred to another command. Starfleet wanted someone they could count on and her name had been mentioned several times. Kimberly accepted the command. Kimberly’s relationship with Brandon was still on again and off again. She wished they could find a way to serve closer and be able to see each other more. They both still wanted to be command officers. Brandon’s career was moving slower than hers. Kimberly hoped for some advancements for him. In 2405, Kimberly and the USS Merkava were ordered to Valhalla Fleet Yards and met with the Admiral at Starbase Port Royale.Kimberly had heard that Martinez was recruiting officers for the fleet yards but she had a command. Perhaps he was interested in her first officer. Kimberly had nothing but good things to say and would be happy to recommend him. Kimberly was shocked when the Vice Admiral offered her command of the USS Apollo out of Valhalla Fleet Yards. She immediately accepted. Being in command of the Apollo was a huge honor. When Martinez informed her that Brandon had accepted command of the USS Dragon Star and was going to be serving there she was even more excited. Finally, they would have a chance to make their relationship work. |
