| Personal History | EARLY YEARS: Zayne was born near Starfleet Academy, being a late, unexpected addition to the family. Both of his parents were teachers at the Academy. As a child, Zayne dreamed of joining Starfleet but he couldn’t quite decide what he wanted to do. He went back and forth between science and possibly something in medical, both professions his parents approved of. One summer, his brother invited him to go camping with him and his wife. While they were on the two month camping trip, Zayne learned to hunt and fish and gained a love for camping as well as weapons. When asked he would always say that trip had molded his future. When Zayne returned home, he headed back to school and shortly after they had career day at his school. He went from booth to booth until he came across one advertising for Starfleet. The first thing he saw was a brochure for security. Zayne immediately took it. Not only would he have a career that entailed weapons but it saved lives and he would be able to travel, something he always wanted to do. Zayne had many friends and dated a few girls but never allowed himself to get serious with any one of them because he didn't want to risk giving his heart to someone when he knew that he was heading to Starfleet and their future might take them in a different direction. After graduation, he immediately signed up at the academy, training in security and tactical. Zayne worked hard at the academy, embracing his book studies and weapons training. It helped that his roommate, Shayne Dunning, was entering the same field and they were able to study together as they were in almost all the same classes together. They were instant friends, going to parties when they were on a break together. When it was time to graduate they were surprised and excited to both be assigned to Starbase Gibralter. The first few months on Gibralter, Shayne found himself assigned menial assignments, like taking shifts in the brig but he didn't mind. He knew that sooner or later he would move up the ranks and eventually be assigned to the bridge, maybe some off base mission. This was all a part of the career he had chosen. One year into serving there, Zayne and Shayne were assigned as escorts for a Diplomat who was headed to a conference on a nearby world. They were to stay with her and bring her back to Gibralter. It was while they were at the conference that they came under attack. In the ensuing battle, Zayne snuck the diplomat, along with some others away from the trouble but it came at a cost. Once they were safe, he discovered Shayne had a mortal injury and could not be saved. It was the first time Zayne had faced the death of someone he cared for and it caused him to toughen up and not get close to people, though he has many surface friends. Zayne went back to work, keeping himself busy so he would not have too much time on his hands to think about it. Soon, he was getting the assignments he wanted, his bravery had been rewarded. He was given a transfer to Port Royale where he is currently serving. Zayne met Kieran Solwick while stationed on Star Base Port Royale and after dating they bonded. They married in 2396 in a wedding suited to a 'Solwick'. In 2397, there first child, Clora was born and in 2399 they welcomed their son, Colin. |
