| The Achilles Class Battle Cruiser, was born out of necessity for the Dominion War in 2373. The Federation feared loosing a lot of ships, to the Dominion. As the war started to progress, the Federation was loosing forces to the Dominion. Starfleet needed cruisers, to fight in the war. With the success of the Defiant Class Destroyers, Starfleet wanted to have a quick mass produced cruiser to the join the war.
The Achillies Class Battle Cruiser, was stripped down to bare necessities to produce mass quantity of cruisers. The Achilles had limited recreational facilities. No holodecks, no chefs, no civilians. The Achilles was designed to utilize a small crew, to limit the loss of life during the war. She was not design with luxury in mind. The Achilles Class has 14 decks. The ship was has extra armament, and computer processing corps, to help it utilize its eight cannons and 4 phaser banks, and two torpedo launchers. The design took less than 3 weeks to design, and a good of the year to complete at the Advanced Starship Bureau. The Achilles Class Starship has a very low profile, that makes it a little more challenging for enemy forces, to attack. By 2376, the Federation decommissioned the the Achilles Class Starship. They kept the design, on file, encase the Borg decided to make another appearance in the Federation. |
