Here is the Ship Classification Overview

Introduction;

Welcome to the Vidal Fleet Yards page. We are very excited to bring to you a deeper experience about the inner workings of Vidal Fleet Yards, here we will cover everything from a detailed listing of ships that are active, mothballed and even retired. Even if a ship has reached the end of their service life, sometimes they stay active after a refit so they can serve at a lighter role.

So, what more will be in this page. Well, I am glad you asked. You see, constructing a ship as large as some on this list takes time, naturally a ship that is hundreds of meters long takes far longer than a ship that is closer to a dozen. So to streamline the timeframe of the ships, we have started by categorizing each ship by its size. From fighters that only have one deck at most to the truly massive Titan class supercarrier who has over 140.

Each class takes a set number of time. The manufacturing of a finished starship is done in four stages. We name these stages; Spartan, Athenian, Odyssius and Myrmidon. Each stage takes different amount of time compared to each other. Refits and repairs does also take time, again it depends on the ship size, but also the level of repair and refit.

✠ Level Alpha: Small Craft Vessels✠

There are three type of vessels that fit this category. Runabouts, Shuttles and Fighters. Most designs fit within those three categories for a small craft vessel. The smallest craft constructed by the federation. Also the most numerable vessels constructed by the federation because of the low need of time and resources. Almost all small craft vessels, have one deck.

I: Fighters
The fighter's main tactical purpose is to establish superiority over the target area, most commonly over a battlefield. The success or failure of a combatant's efforts to gain space superiority hinges on several factors including the skill of its pilots, the tactical soundness of its doctrine for deploying its fighters, and the numbers and performance of those fighters. Many fighters have secondary capabilities such as ground attack and some types, such as fighter-bombers, are designed from the outset for dual roles.

II: Shuttles
The shuttle was designed for general utility, capable of aiding in scientific explorations, starship repairs, or fighting enemy craft as needed. She is also used to transport crew, over short distances. As scene in several star trek episodes.

III: Runabouts
The Runabout was the designation to transport crew, over longer durations than a shuttle craft. And for smaller exploration and scientific missions for the Federation. Runabouts are equipped with limited weapons and drive systems, but offered additional living space and the ability to be configured to mission-specific cargo capacities. They had a larger operational range and better weapons capability compared to shuttles, and were capable of speeds of up to warp 5. Runabouts were typically assigned to space stations or starships as auxiliary craft.

✠ Level Beta: Corvette & Frigate ✠

IV: Corvette
A corvette is a small warship. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper (or "rated") warship. The warship class above the corvette is comparable to a frigate, while the class below was historically corvete style vessels you will see are pilot style escort vessels, that gain a tactical strike, from flank attacking, and attacking in numbers. These vessels are small and very agile. Corvettes are most used in defense or attack operations. Typically you do not see a Corvette on a patrol.

V: Frigate
Frigates are used to protect warships, and cruisers. They can be used as patrol vessels, but are more designed as escorts, for larger groups, like carriers, and Starbase defense. Ship classes dubbed "frigates" have also more closely resembled corvettes, destroyers, cruisers and even battleships. A frigate, like the corvette, has a short window of deployment, as they need to brought in for resupply.

✠ Level Charlie: Destroyer ✠

VI: Destroyers
In Federation naval terminology, a destroyer class vessel is a fast, maneuverable, long-endurance warship that assists larger vessels in a fleet, convoy or battle group and defend them against powerful short range attackers. Typically destroyers are attached to starbases. They are used mainly as defensive weapons. Destroyers can be assigned to carrier groups.

✠ Level Delta: Cruisers ✠

VII: Cruisers
Cruisers are the most common ship in the Federation. There are several types of cruisers that support the needs of the Federation. They have a variety or roles they support. From Exploration, to commerce protection, carrier patrol assignments, to independent scouting assignments. The Cruiser is the backbone of the Federation Fleet.

These spaceships are the most numerous among the explorers of the federation, they are relatively cheap but also pack the tactical and utility technology to face the vast unknown of the galaxy. Number of decks: 16 - 25.

✠ Level Echo: Command Ships ✠

✠ Level Foxtrot: Carriers ✠

These starships are so advanced and so large that the construction of such a ship is a huge undertaking from the federation, only the low single digit number of these are ever constructed and maintained. Seeing one is so rare that some might say that it is like seeing a unicorn, inspiring and a sense of awe. Number of decks: 46 - N/A

•Ascension class
•Sovereign class
•Titan class (Super Carrier)
