Personal History EARLY YEARS

Clark was born in the small town of Vernonia, Oregon. He is the oldest of three and took the role of older brother seriously. Clark's parents owned an Irish Pub and saw that their sons had a good life.

Their home was next door to the pub which meant Clark was responsible for his younger brothers at an early age. The three brothers got along well, spending their days pretending they were Starfleet officers, chasing down bad guys and discovering new places.

Clark picked up reading from his father, who loved to read novels about a captain serving in Starfleet. Clark was captivated with them and dreamed of one day being the captain of his own ship.

Clark hated school. He didn't see the point. He didn't need to learn about history, math etc. While in middle school he became friends with Dale Adams. They thought alike on many things. Clark wanted to go into security but Dale had his heart set on medical.

One day the boys were wandering through town when they decided to walk across the Vernonia State Trail which had a gorge underneath it. Clark and Dale were laughing and having a good time when they heard a noise behind them. Clark's younger brother Jake had skipped school to follow them and have fun.

Clark started back when Jake tripped and fell. Clark ran as he saw his brother start to fall towards the edge. It was fortunate that he got their just in time, both boys landing hard on the steel bars of the tracks. Clark would forever hear the sound of the crack as his brother's leg snapped.

This was a pivotal moment in Clark and Jake's life. At first they wanted to take Jake to the hospital and run away. Both boys were worried about what kind of trouble they would get in but instead they decided to face their trouble.

Clark would never forget the look of disappointment he got from his parents. He wished they would yell at him but they didn't. Instead, his parents and Dale's handed down their punishment. They would spend the summer catching up on their Homework. Clark would be responsible for taking Jake wherever he wanted to go and entertaining him. Dale's father planned to keep Dale busy at his work. The last punishment was the two boys would not see each other over the summer.

Clark hated that summer. He had had so many plans and things he wanted to do. He and Dale were going camping and they were supposed to go on a trip to California with Dale's uncle. Instead, they spent their summer paying for their mistakes.

The first day of ninth grade, Clark and Dale agreed they weren't skipping school anymore. Being stuck babysitting all summer gave Clark an opportunity to find our about going into Starfleet. He realized that it wasn't just about wanting to be an officer, they had to do the work and get good grades. Clark also decided he needed to be in good shape and started working out. He took a weapons safety class, deciding he needed to start thinking ahead.

Clark dated a few girls while in high school b0ut they really didn’t have much in common. The girls were either set on staying in Vernonia or they had careers of their own that took them in opposite directions. On top of those reasons he didn’t want to get serious with anyone at this point in his life.

Clark graduated from high school with good grades. He was excited to head to the Academy. They had been accepted and were heading to Vulcan to the Academy there.

ACADEMY YEARS - 2393 -2397

Clark and Dale left home excited. They thought they would get a taste of being on a starship for their trip to Vulcan. Instead, they rode on a transport vessel. It was crowded, the rooms were tiny with little space as they fit as many cadets in as they could. To top that off, the food was lousy.

Dale couldn’t handle the crowded people. Clark was afraid he had claustrophobia which could disqualify him from serving in Starfleet. The next day, Dale was sick to his stomach, it wasn’t long before many on the transport fell I’ll. It turned out there was a virus on board. They were given medication and started a slow journey to recovery.

They arrived at Vulcan feeling a bit worn out but didn’t have but a day to prepare for classes to start. Clark was nervous that first day but once it was over, he embraced his classes.

One morning, Clark went for a run and he got turned around. He tried to find his way back and finally had to admit defeat. He was about to call Dale for help when he saw a Vulcan woman walking towards him. Clark called out to her and explained he was lost. He introduced himself and found out her name was T’sai. After speaking for a few minutes she agreed to help him get back to his apartment. Clark insisted on taking her to dinner as a thank you for her kindness.

T’sai became a good friend of Clark and Dale’s over the next two years. She showed them parts of Vulcan most people didn’t see. There were many times it was just Clark and T’sai as Dale’s studies in medicine included interning at a hospital. The two became quite close.

His third year at the academy, Clark was one of a few cadets who were sent to study under a Vulcan security team. It was an eye opening experience. They trained beside the Vulcan officers and went through some training mission scenes. Clark excelled and showed his worth. He learned a lot about Vulcan protocol and was grateful internally.

His fourth year on Vulcan saw Dale heading back to Earth. His final year would be spent at the Leonard McCoy Medical Center. Clark hated to see him go. He knew that their lives were going to go in different directions and things would never be the same. He knew it was a part of life but he missed his friend as he set off to follow his dreams.

Clark spent his early morning running. It helped him start the day with a calm and focused state of mind. He attended his classes and then most evenings he hung out with T'sai. Some days they would play Kal-toh, a Vulcan game similar to Jenga on Earth.

Midway through his final year, Clark started to have problems sleeping. He knew it was stressful as he finished up his final year at the academy. T’sai suggested he try Vulcan meditation. Clark agreed and that became a ritual for them.

It was close to graduation when Clark began to suspect that T’sai was starting to feel more than friendship for him. He ignored it for a little bit and asked her if she was having feelings for him. She didn’t answer but asked him the same question. Clark answered her honestly. He considered her a friend and nothing more. Clark was not ready for a relationship and her life was here on Vulcan. He was going to explore, it was in his blood. T’sai answered that friendship was all they would ever have. It wasn’t until much later, Clark realized she had never answered his question.

Clark graduated with high marks. He, along with the others who participated in the special Vulcan program received a special award. He regretted that his family could not be there but his brother Jake was two years into the academy and his parents could not leave the Pub. His friend Dale, however, had managed to be there and it meant a lot to him. They spent the next few

days together before Clark had to leave to reach his assignment.

USS NEXUS

Clark was assigned to the USS Nexus in 2397. He spent his first few months counting weapons, sitting at the security desk and sometimes watching the brig. He was impatient to start utilizing his skills and finally got his break when he was assigned to the bridge to cover for another officer. During that shift, they were sent to assist the USS Hikaru. Clark showed his worth while on the away team and was instrumental in helping save several officers.

It was a turning point in his career. The security chief put him on rotation. He was assigned to the Gamma shift. It seemed most of the crew hated working from 2300 to 0700 but Clark didn’t mind it at all. He was serving on the bridge. In late 2397 he was given a promotion to lieutenant junior grade. Clark felt good about the rank increase.

Clark wanted his department head to see his worth so he worked hard and volunteered for assignments. Over the next two years he gained the respect and trust of Chief Ryerson.

In 2399 Clark was promoted to assistant chief security officer. At the same time he is given a new assignment on the USS Azetbur.. While he is waiting for transport to his new assignment he is given a shore leave. With Risa nearby, Clark heads there to celebrate his promotion with a couple of crew members who are waiting for their transport to a different ship as well.

Clark was looking forward to some down time, having a few drinks and celebrating his new position. He had worked hard and it finally paid off. Clark sent a message home to his family and one to Dale as well. He heard from his friend right away but as yet his family hadn’t replied. He knew the Pub kept them busy so he wasn’t overly concerned.

Clark had checked in at the resort, cleaned up and headed down to the attached nightclub which he was told was the hottest place to be. He walked in and looked around for his friends and headed over to their table. After having a couple drinks, he got up and headed on to the dance floor. Clark was having a great time when he bumped into someone. Turning, his eyes met hers and he immediately felt something stir in him. Clark wanted to get to know her so he asked her to dance.

After they danced a few times, they sat down at a table. Clark was trying to figure out a way to bring up the topic of not wanting the evening to end when Monica suggested they spend the weekend together, just first names and when it was over, they parted ways. Clark agreed, he didn’t want any complications when he was just starting out his career and she had said the same.

It was a weekend Clark would never forget. They had both opened up to the other and told them things they had never shared before. Clark shared his hopes and dreams, disappointments he had had in himself and how he had just been promoted. He listened to Monica while she shared hers as well. There was a connection and he had to keep reminding himself that this was just for the weekend. Clark knew that he would never forget their weekend together. He had never met a woman like her. She understood him and respected what he wanted out of life and he did the same for her.

USS AZETBUR

Clark threw himself into his work when he got on board the USS Azetbur. As a new assistant security chief he wanted to impress Captain Hela and his command staff. He also wanted to keep himself from thinking about Monica. The first month, he had been tempted to see if he could find this mysterious woman named Monica.

In 2400, Clarke was called to the Captain’s office. When he got there, Commander Domar was there and to his surprise he was introduced to the new Assistant Chief Control Flight Officer Monica Griffin, the mystery woman from Risa. He had been assigned to be her guide to help her learn her role. Clarke held it together, acting like he had never met her before
.
Once they left the office, they went to Clarke’s office, a safe place to talk without prying ears. Clarke found the conversation awkward. He couldn’t stand there in good conscience and tell her that he didn’t have feelings for her and that he had moved on. It seemed that Monica felt the same way. Before long, the two of them picked up where they left off and within a few days were dating each other.

Clark knew that eventually they were going to have a problem and have to make some hard decisions. If one of them got promoted or offered a transfer then they would have to talk. He didn’t want to talk about it but preferred to live in the moment. There didn’t seem to be an answer as he wouldn’t let her hold her career back and he knew she wasn’t going to let him either.

In 2401, Clark was promoted to security chief and offered a position on the USS Essex. He took a long walk around the ship and ended up in their quarters having every intention of turning it down. Monica meant a lot to him and he wasn’t about to risk a relationship with the woman he loved. It was Monica’s intervention that convinced him to take the position. She was adamant that he not sacrifice his chance to move up by staying there. In the end, Clarke accepted the position and headed off to the USS Essex.

Clark headed on to the USS Essex with mixed feelings. He embraced his position and got along well with the captain and crew. Clark treated his crew with respect and though he expected them to do their very best, he was empathic when they had problems.

FIRST OFFICER TRAINING - VULCAN

In 2404, Captain O’Rourke called him in his office and informed him that he had recommended him for first officer training at the academy on Vulcan. Clark had thought about applying himself and was planning on doing it soon. He was honored by the recommendation and decided to head there and take the training. He felt he was ready to command his own ship having learned many valuable tools on the ships he had served on.

Clark contacted Monica right away and discovered that she too was headed to Vulcan for first officer training. He was so happy to learn they would be together again. He couldn’t wait to show her Vulcan. He also sent a message off to T’sai to let her know they would be coming. He wanted to see his friend again.

Clark was a little nervous about T’sai and Monica meeting. The last time he had seen her he had felt like she had feelings for him but when he first saw her he knew he had been wrong. Her actions and the way she spoke told him that she considered him to be a good friend and nothing more.

Clark and Monica met T’sai for lunch their first day there. Clark was pleased to learn that T’sai had attended the Vulcan Science Academy and was getting ready to head to Earth to go to Starfleet Academy. He was happy to see that she had decided to take that all important step.

While on Vulcan their relationship grew deeper and they became even closer. They both knew that being apart would no longer work and one of them making a sacrifice wouldn’t either. They came up with the idea of contacting Rear Admiral Martinez to possibly be assigned to Valhalla Fleet Yards.

In early 2405, Clark found out he was being transferred to Valhalla Fleet yards. He found out just minutes later that Monica was as well. He couldn’t be happier. They had the solution they wanted. Both of them would be first officers and they would be able to see each other as they would be stationed out of the fleet yards. Clark didn’t know what ship he would be assigned to but he didn’t care at this point. They found a ride to the station together and spent their ride there, guessing at what ship each would end up with. Once they arrived at the Fleet Yards, Clark discovered he had been assigned to the USS Dragon Star, serving under Captain Brandon Reed. It was on his top five of where he wanted to be placed.

Clark sent a message to Dale letting him know he was promoted to first officer and where he was headed. He was excited to hear that Dale’s ship was stopping at Port Royale right after Clark and Monica arrived. Dale had done well, he was chief medical officer in the USS Minerva, his wife was the chief counselor and they were expecting their second child.
