Personal History The Early Years

Monica Renee Griffin was born 2375 to Lucas and Amber Griffin. She was born at the tail end of the Dominion War. Monica was raised on the USS Komodo. A Galaxy class starship. her father was the commanding officer of the captain of the Komodo.

Monica has a younger sister named Sarah Griffin. The sisters were very close growing up, they were about 3 years apart in age. Sarah always looked up to her older sister Monica, we felt like she had to set a good example for her younger sister. Most of the time Monica didn't mind, except for when it interfered with her social life and mainly in relation to her boyfriends.

Monica received her education aboard the Komodo, she was not the only child on the ship; the ship had over 1,014 members aboard to include their families. In 2393 Monica joined Starfleet Academy on Bajor.

Monica was a good child growing up, having two loving parents. Her parents were far from perfect. They both suffer from PTSD caused by the war, luckily for them they had a great counselor to help them through it. The crew called her counselor Marie Thompson but to Monica she was just Auntie Marie.

Monica and Auntie Marie are very close, she considered her as a big sister. Thank you Marie always seems to have the right advice to give, despite the fact they were years apart and age.

Monica had a few relationships that were very insignificant throughout her high school days. She was a pretty enough girl, but she wasn't looking for anything serious. From a young age, if she wanted to go into Starfleet.

She blamed the fact that she was never looking for a serious relationship on the fact that she had a younger sister that admired her and she wanted said a good example for her plus the fact that most men her age were just immature. She found it hard to really connect with anybody from the opposite sex. She hoped this would always be the case because she did find men to be very attractive.

Monica decided during her senior year that she wanted to go through the command program at starfleet? Monica wanted to serve as a yeoman and learn all she could from either a Captain or an Admiral. Someday she wanted to be an Admiral.

In 2393 Monica graduated from high school and joined Starfleet. She was accepted to the Bajor Academy Campus. Ever since the Dominion War, Starfleet had decided to split up the academy. Tactically speaking, having all the cadets attending one facility was a very bad idea, just in case there was another attack. They created campuses on four key worlds. Bajor, Betazed, Earth and Vulcan.

Starfleet Academy: Bajor

Monica joined the command program and began to take her studies very seriously. She was very competitive after settling in on Bajo. She felt that she belonged, and not only did she belong, she deserved to be in the top 5% of her class.

Monica had a very competitive streak in her, and it really came out when she noticed the other cadets were dresses competitive as she was. They motivated her to want to be better than she was, and she hoped she was doing the same for them.

Most of her first year was only about command protocols, being a political diplomat, being a yeoman for an admiral or a captain. In some ways it felt a little easier than learning about science or engineering and letting all that technobabble in the lingo that would be needed to do those kind of things but she knew she wasn't going to get out of that either she did have some science courses and Engineering courses that she had to take. She found them less than thrilling.

The beginning of her second year Monica decided to socialize more, she found herself going to the major city whenever she could, the Bajorans were an interesting alien culture. She had never met a race so dedicated to wormhole aliens posing as their Gods.

Typically she just hung out where the other cadets tended to go. About two months into her sophomore year she befriended another ocadet going through the program. Monica met Veronica O'Neill. They became very good friends at the Academy. Veronica was studying to become a doctor.

The two of them became very close. Having Veronica around made her day go by faster. Veronica was the missing element that she did not know she needed at the Academy. The two were very inseparable.

Monica chose not to date any classmates. She feared that if she did, that she wouldn't be assigned to the same ship as her potential partner. Starting out her career she didn't want to be in a long distance relationship.

She knew she would need that personal connection in order to help her establish herself. No one likes to be alone, but before you can be alone you have to establish a foundation of trust and that is just really hard to do when you don't see each other and you don't really know each other.

She decided that she would start looking when she got into the fleet. Monica wanted to be assigned to the same ship that Veronica O’Neill was assigned to. Luckily for them they were both on the USS San Marcos for their residency training.

Four years came and gone before Monica knew it. She was now starting in the fleet. She was assigned to the USS Archeron an Inquiry Class Battle Cruiser. She was one of the toughest ships that Starfleet had in service in 2397.

USS Acheron

In 2397, Monica served as the Yeoman to Captain Tiang Tsu Sato aboard the USS Acheron. He commanded the flagship of the battle group. She spent most of her time scheduling Captain Sato’s meetings with his 9 ships in his battle group. Monica found the experience to be rewarding, but long hours. After two years she started to feel burned out. She started to look at advancing her career.

In 2399 Captain Sato’s Battle Group was called to duty to assist Admiral Picard. The fleet went to the Coppelius system. The operational name of the mission was the “Battle Of Coppelius.” Ironically the fleet never actually participated in the battle. Admiral Picard’s team was able to show the romulans the Synthetics were not a threat.

After the mission Captain Sato took the USS Acheron in for refit at Beta Antares Fleet Yards. which allowed Monica to head to Risa with other members of her crew. She was officially on shore leave after the completion of the “Battle of Coppelius.”

While on Risa, Monica met Clark Nash for the first time. There was an instant attraction between them. They met at the main resort Monica went there with Veronica they were going to have a lady's vacation but Clark put a damper in those plans. Well in part he did.

Monica did not plan on finding a guy. She had joked with Veronica about finding a man to hook up with, but she didn't think it was really going to go anywhere.

She chalked it off as too young semi-toxicated ladies just having a little fun and saying a bunch of stuff that they didn't really mean.

Monica met Clark on the risian dance floor and that was after she had a couple risian mai tai's. Monica secretly desired him, but she was not ready for a serious relationship so she made a deal with them that they wouldn't give each other their last names and that they would have a great weekend and they go their separate ways to remembering the experience that they had.

Monica told him it'd be a great story to tell his friends if you wanted. Monica truley believe she would never see him again, so she opened up to him making sure to leave out key facts like where she was assigned and what her last name is where her homeworld was.

They had a remarkable night and underneath the rising stars on Risa, they had a perfect night filled with passion and romance. After the weekend ended they both went separate ways never expecting to see each other again, and they knew how big Starfleet was and not every Starship went to this planet for r&r.

Monica returns to the USS Acheron and completes one more year of service, and is promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

USS Azetbur

Monica joins the USS Azetbur, a reliant class starship in 2400. She signs on as the Assistant Chief Control Flight Officer. Monica meets up with Captain Hela and Commander Domar. The first officer assigns Monica a guide to help her acclimate into her new role. She is introduced to Lieutenant Junior Grade Clark Nash. Both officers were really surprised to see one another.

Monica was not sure this was going to work out for her. She never expected to see Clark again, and yet here he was. Being her guide and helping her acclimate to the Azetbur. Monica and Clark tried to have the awkward talk, but they ended up picking up where they left off on Risa. Before too long the two officers started to date.

Monica was scared, but it was too late. They were in so deep. The reason she was scared had everything to do with career. She did not want to stagnate her career in any way. And she did not want him to do the same. She was concerned that dating would force one of them to choose the other's career over their own. And she was not ready to do that.

Monica knew she would be spending the next two years on the Azetbur, so what harm could there be to atleast commit a year to see how their relationship blossomed. Monica went all in and really gave her relationship with Clark a real chance. The two feel in love, and after 6 months were living together.

In 2401 Clark was offered a promotion to Department Chief. At first he wanted to turn it down, to remain with her on the Azetbur. She strongly tried to convince him to go. Her biggest fear was starting to come true. She did not want to stagnate their careers in any way. After he takes the position, by a strange coincidence a position opened up on the USS Icarus opens up a desperate need for a new chief control flight officer position. Their former pilot was killed in action and Captain Toketh was looking for a good pilot to assist him. His previous pilot was killed in action.

USS Icarus

In 2401, Monica applied for the position expecting to get turned down, since she barely spent a year on the Azetbur. To her surprise Captain Tokketh accepted her offer, and had her transferred to ship. Captain Tokketh wanted to meet her before integrating her with his crew. Monica met with Captain Tokketh and Commander Snarld. He knew the crew would not accept a Lieutenant Junior Grade as Second Officer so he meritioursly promoted her to Lieutenant.

Commander Snarld, was a little surprised that Captain Tokketh not only accepted her, but offered her 2nd Officer of the Icarus. This was unusual for a Vulcan to do. Unknown to her, Captain Sato had suggested to the Vulcan captain to give her a chance. And decided too. Plus he needed a liaison between the humans and himself.

Monica did not know if she was ready for the commitment. But she did not want to say no, and face the wrath of the Captain or the First Officer. She was grateful they were going to give her this opportunity. Monica spent the next two years learning a lot from Captain Tokketh and after three years he started to push her to attend the Academy in 2404.

Starfleet Academy: XO Academy, Vulcan Campus

In 2404 Monica met up again with Clark, and they both attended XO Academy on the Vulcan Homeworld. Clark had talked so much about this place, and his close relationship with T’Sai that Monica needed to see for herself what the appeal was to this hot desert wasteland as she once believed it to be.

Monica at first was threatened by T’Sai but after meeting her, she could see why Clark really looked up to her, and admired her. Part of Monica looked up to her as well. Clark and her wanted to take things slowly, but emotions and lust are two hard things to control. They knew their only chance to keep this relationship going was to get Admiral Domingo Martinez to look at them, and accept them at Valhalla Fleet Yards.

Monica was pleased to learn that she was going to be assigned to the Fleet Yards, and that Clark was going to be as well. She had no idea where in the fleet yards she would be assigned would be, but deep down she hoped it was on an tactical wing, on one of the big cruisers. She later learned that she was going to be assigned to the USS Ottawa in the 2nd Tactical Wing under the command of Captain Mitchell Singleton.
