Personal History Rodney’s parents met on the base and had a torrid affair. When she found out she was pregnant she wanted to get rid of the baby. Children weren’t in her future plans and marrying him wasn’t in her plans. She had her eyes on a higher prize. Rodney’s Dad talked her into having the baby. He agreed to take full custody and would never contact her again. When Rodney was born, March 23,2382, his father was the first one to hold him. His mother didn’t want a thing to do with him and and the first opportunity that came she left.

At first it was tough on his Dad, he has a new born baby and was the chief engineer but he learned to juggle things and had daycare offered through the fleet yards. Whenever his Dad wasn’t working he had Rodney with him. He was worried that Rodney would feel abandoned by his mother and he wanted to make up for that.

The bond between Rodney and his Dad was strong. Rodney looked up to his father and like to follow him around. The crew told his Dad that Rodney would outgrow it but to their surprise he didn’t. He even had a tool belt he ran around wearing that matched llhis Dads.

Rodney pretty much grew up around the shipyard. When he was eight he was gifted with a model kit for a ship and once he put that together, his destiny as an engineer was put in motion. Whenever a holiday or his birthday came up he would ask for models, legos or building kits.

He loved it when his Dad became part of the Corps of engineers. Rodney was in his teens and when his father went to starships they were working on he would take Rodney with him. Rodney loved to go look at the new ships and see the designs. Sometimes, he would even help his father out with some small job.

Rodney worked hard at school and when he wasn't there he would hang out with the engineers and his father, who started to give him hands-on training, with permission from their command officers.

There were other kids his age on the station and Rodney was friends with a few of them. He wasn't the most popular person, he preferred to have a few good friends than a bunch of superficial ones. His best friend was Billy McLean. They would spend hours playing video games or putting a Lego kit together. Rodney’s Dad would buy them the adult ones and they would spend hours on them.

Rodney didn't date much, he found girls to be frivilious and empty headed. They weren't interested in things that mattered just boys and makeup and to him, things that didn't matter. There was Donna who kept asking him how she looked, did he like hair and Beth who wanted to know if her makeup looked good. And the giggling girls thought it was cute and sexy. It got on Rodney’s nerves.

Rodney talked to his counselor when he starte his Junior year and got a curriculum that would help him with his engineering courses at the academy. He had known what he wanted to do since he was little and he was keeping his eyes on his goal. He had talked to his Dad about his career and had his full support.

STARFLEET ACADEMY - EARTH

After graduating from high school, Rodney headed straight to the Academy to study engineering in 2400. He roomed with a group of five guys. They all became good friends and though Rodney had worried about it at first, they developed a plan for studying so they all got their homework done.

They had recreational time as well. They would go get pizza and a beer and all of them would do Karoke. Rodney had a horrible voice but that didn’t stop him. He would get up there and sing just as loud as anyone else. They worked out at the gym and would go shoot hoops on a Friday night.

It was during his second year at the academy that Rodney was assigned a mentor to help him with some of his book studies. He was doing excellent on the hands on work, but it was the written studies that were his weakness. From the moment Tiffany Devine walked into his life, Rodney knew that she would change his world and she did.

Tiffany was a great help in his studies and before long became his lover. Rodney was surprised that she even looked at him twice, her being ten years his senior. Being the first woman he had been intimate with, Rodney fell hard and fast for her. She kept reminding him that this wasn't serious, just a fling but he convinced himself that she would change her mind. She was his first crush.

Once Rodney's mentoring was completed, Tiffany walked away without a backward glance. It reminded Rodney of the way his mother had done the same so long ago. There was a part of him that wanted to walk away from women all together and just live a solitary life. He didn’t want to risk himself for love agajn. But he looked at rhe couples around him and knew there had to be someone out there for him. He decided he was going to concentrate on his studies and not think about women.

Rodney was a senior at the academy when he got the rare opportunity to go to the San Francisco Fleet Yards and work with some of the best engineers in the fleet . He worked beside them and learned so much from them. Rodney helped with installing equipment on new starships. It felt good to know he helped in some small way.

Rodney headed back to the academy for his last year at the academy. His friends had missed him and they spent the evening out having fun. Then, it was back to work for all of them. This was the part of their time at the academy that it was do or die.

Then it was their graduation. They had all made it, thanks to each other. They had supported one another and helped each other study. As each of them graduated the others cheered for them. Once their ceremony was over they spent their last night together, eating pizza and singing Karoke. They made a vow to keep in touch with each other.

USS CELEBRON

Rodney went to the USS Celebron in 2404 as an assistant chief. He had graduated top of his class and shown abilities that justified starting him out as an assistant.

He worked hard from his first day there. At first he heard some rumblings from some of the engineers who were working for promotions. But after a bit of time, a night where they had run into some issues with the engines and Rodney’s quick thinking had fixed them and they understood why he had come on as the assistant chief.

Rodney made some good friends while he served there. The operations officer was a real likeable guy, they would hang out together many evenings and talk, play a video game and sometimes go see what the crew was up to. Usually join in a card game.
